Starbucks on Montmartre? Vive les petits cafes!

This little beauty is on one of the side streets
down the hill from Montmartre's Place de Tetre.

Sad to say that as soon as next month,
the famous square, filled with painters and artists,
will become home to a Starbucks.

Members of the association Paris Pride (Paris Fierte)
have vowed to fight it to the end using
petitions and demonstrations.

I myself have some very strong feelings about it.
What's your feeling?

  1. This looks like such a charming street. I love the quaint old shops because that's what makes a town so charming, but I also love Starbucks. The town that I moved from had the most charming old town, very historic, and on the corner of the block they had a Starbucks, and it was the most delightful Starbucks I've been to. Sometimes I guess we can mix the old and the new, but always remember their history.

  2. Surely Starbucks will make it very Parisian so as not to stick out like a sore thumb; teacups and cloth napkins and such.

  3. I DO NOT WANT A STARBUCKS THERE! OH I love my French brethren; they do not take things lying down. I so hope they win the petition. We go to France, to England, to all parts of the world to see THEIR WAY OF LIVING, not our own. I want to taste French coffee, not what I know from here! Oh, please keep us updated my dear!

    THANKS FOR COMING BY!

  4. Kisten,
I find this terribly depressing! I cannot believe that the French will allow it :(.

    Happy week my friend,

  5. OH PLEASE JUST SAY NO!! The whole idea of going in a Starbucks is because you pretty much know what you are going to get. A commercialized sterile environment with no personality whatsoever. So many people are oblivious to their environment and have no idea what ambiance is or why one would even want it when having coffee. Soooo sad!!!!
