Norma Jean Mortenson would have been 87 years old today.
I had forgotten that she spent much of her early years in foster homes,
making her beginning, in my mind, nearly as tragic as her ending.
I haven't yet seen Michelle Williams' version of her in My Week with Marilyn
but it's on my list.
Wish you were here, Norma Jean,
for a party, flowers and
to reminisce on the beauty of your life.

Hard to believe, isn't it. I remember being fairly young when she died (young adult, that is!). How much more I appreciate her now!

ReplyDeleteKirsten, I was in the hospital having an appendectomy the day she died. It was all over the radio. I'm glad you reminded me of the movie; I am a fan of Williams and Eddie Redmayne.
