According to the New York Times Sunday Book Review, Jonathan Franzen's book Freedom heads the year's ten best books. Followed by:

The New Yorker Stories by Ann Beattie
Room by Emma Donoghue
Selected Stories by William Trevor
A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan
Apollo's Angels: A History of Ballet by Jennifer Homans
Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff
The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee
Finishing The Hat: Collected Lyrics (1954-1981) With Attendant Comments, Principles, Heresies, Grudges, Whines and Anecdotes by Stephen Sondheim
The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration by Isabel Wilkerson.

What about you? What were your favorite books of the year?

  1. Good morning Kirsten! I heard about this one and Franzen really is someone I need to read. Oh, to have TIME for a delicious BOOK!

    Enjoy your day, Anita

  2. I see I have another book lover also. I will be back for a visit. I love your music also. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

  3. I am ashamed to say that I do not think I have completed an entire book this year. Is that too much work or what? Have a great wknd. xx

  4. I haven't read a single one of these. Oh my.

  5. I'm late at responding to this but Freedom definitely has my vote. I loved it, even with all the hoopla surrounding Franzen. I also liked Egan's A Visit from the Good Squad, but it's not for everyone as the structure is quite different. I have read many of the New Yorker stories in the New Yorker, and I have Room on my list. Would love to read Cleopatra, but don't think I'll have time. Whew.

Hello and Welcome!
Thanks for coming and for making your thoughts and feelings known. I appreciate all comments greatly.
Hope to see you again!
